Emergency Dentistry in Houston, TX
Emergencies can happen at any time. In most cases, they occur at the most inconvenient time, such as over the weekend or after regular office hours. If you have a dental emergency, contact Dr. Arezina’s office to see whether we can make an appointment to see you that day. If not, we may be able to refer you to another trusted dentist. Fortunately, not all dental emergencies must be treated immediately – some can be tended to at home until you can make it to our office in Houston. Here are a few steps you can take in the case of some dental emergencies.
A toothache can be caused by one of several reasons, such as trauma, infection, cavities, or erupting wisdom teeth. They can be a warning sign of a more complicated or severe problem. It is crucial to have your teeth examined to have the cause determined as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can manage any pain or discomfort by using over-the-counter painkillers and applying a cold compress.
Cracked or broken tooth
A cracked or broken tooth usually does not require immediate attention. Apply a dental cement to the affected tooth to relieve any pain and to help preserve the tooth until it can be fixed.
Like a toothache, sore gums are usually a signal of other more serious issues. One common cause of sore gums is gum disease, which will require prompt treatment to prevent the condition from worsening. You will need to be examined to be diagnosed and receive treatment, but to alleviate discomfort, it can help to rinse the mouth with warm saltwater. Additionally, make sure that there is no food or debris stuck in between the teeth.
Knocked-out (avulsed) tooth
An avulsed tooth will need treatment as soon as possible to put it back in its place and save it. Retrieve the tooth and gently rinse it with water. Hold it only by the crown, not the root, and do not use soap on it. Keep it in a cup of either water, milk, or saliva and bring it in when you visit us.
